Theory

Food storage is the process of keeping food in a particular place until it is needed. Proper storage helps to preserve the quality, nutritional value and safety of food products. It also prevents spoilage and reduces food waste.

Different types of food require different storage conditions. Fresh fruits and vegetables are usually stored in cool places. Meat, fish and dairy products need refrigeration. Dry products such as flour, rice and sugar can be stored at room temperature in closed containers.

Modern food storage methods include refrigeration, freezing, canning, drying and vacuum packaging. These methods help to extend the shelf life of products and keep them safe for longer periods.

Temperature, humidity and light are the main factors that affect food storage. Incorrect storage can lead to the growth of bacteria, mould and loss of vitamins.
